Its funny that she may not have been familiar with at least the modern form of the Rosary, given her depiction in Icons of Our Lady of the Rosary (or of Pompeii.)

It is indeed funny how history gives us the wrong impression of the truth. Depictions of Our Lady of the Rosary in artwork didn't first appear until two hundred years after the life of St. Catherine, so they don't reflect actual history from her day. As a matter of fact, the legend that the Rosary was given to St. Dominic in the 13th century didn't even come into existence until the 15th century, well after St. Catherine's death.
